Custom domains

A custom domain puts your short links on a hostname you own:

go.yourbrand.com/drop

…instead of zipthe.link/drop. Same link, same native-app spring, same Link Pulse numbers — wearing your brand instead of ours.

Which plans get one

A branded domain is a Legend feature. Hero and Sidekick links live on zipthe.link, and they open the real native app and report app-open outcomes exactly the same way — the domain changes whose name is on the link, not what the link can do.

Worth knowing before you decide: this is later than most of the category puts it. Short.io, Bitly and Rebrandly all sell a branded domain on a cheaper plan than $49. We think that's a fair thing to hold against us, and we'd rather you read it here than find out after paying.

How do I set up a custom domain?

1. Go to Domains in the dashboard and add your hostname (a subdomain like go.yourbrand.com or link.yourbrand.com is the normal choice — don't use your apex domain, you need that for your website).
2. Zippy shows you the DNS records to add at your registrar.
3. Add them, then hit Check now. There's no background polling — the check runs when the page loads or when you ask for it.
4. Once the status flips to active, pick the domain in the Domain dropdown when you create a link.

TLS certificates are provisioned automatically. You don't buy or configure one.

Your existing links don't move

Adding a domain doesn't rewrite anything you already posted. A link created on zipthe.link/drop stays on zipthe.link/drop and keeps redirecting forever — that's the permanence promise, and a domain change is not an exception to it. New links get the new domain; old links keep the URL that's already printed on somebody's poster.

What happens if I downgrade?

Every link keeps redirecting. Always. Dropping from Legend to Hero, or from Hero to free, never turns a link off, never breaks a QR code, and never takes your hostname out of service — including the links already living on it. What a downgrade limits is what you can create and manage going forward — not what's already live. Some tools quietly kill links on a domain when you stop paying for it. We don't, and we won't.

Notes

• One hostname is one domain, so go.yourbrand.com and link.yourbrand.com are two.
• A hostname can only be claimed by one workspace.
• The redirect path never reads your plan. A link resolves identically whether you're paying or not — which is exactly why a Zippy link is safe to print.
